Edinburgh Summer Sprint Series 2006

Want to try a sport that's fun for all the family? Fancy discovering sides you've never seen of your favourite bits of Edinburgh? Want to explore areas of the city you may have never thought about before?

The Edinburgh Summer Orienteering Series will let you do just that.

Orienteering is a sport that involves finding your way around a course using a map, picking the best route between points. You can race your way around, or simply enjoy a beautiful Edinburgh evening in the outdoors. Further details on orienteering can be found by contacting the Series Co-ordinator or visit the websites of the British Orienteering Federation or Scottish Orienteering Association. The photo montage here gives a good idea of what orienteering is about!

Details of the series are on the events page while more details of the events are below.

The Series

Please arrive at the venue by 6.30pm. There will be people from the local clubs, Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club, Interlopers, and Edinburgh University Orienteering Club on hand to introduce you to the orienteering map and how the events will work. You can go round as a family, or everyone can go separately once their confidence starts to build. All the events in bold on the events page will be family friendly, avoiding crossing large roads, short in distance and with easier navigation. There will also be longer trickier courses for those feeling more adventurous! At the end of the series there will be prizes for the best novices and best families, so it's well worth coming to a few events!

Edinburgh City Cup

For the top runners there is the Edinburgh City Cup to play for, with each race being a mass start the first over the line wins, it couldn't be simpler!

50pts for 1st, 49pts for 2nd, etc. Best 6 results from 11 races to count. A variety of class and spot prizes will be on offer.
